New to F&A Day 2013 began with a walking tour of downtown Athens by local community leaders. The tour concluded at the Georgian Hotel where the participants enjoyed a hot breakfast while hearing trivia about the Classic City. Special guests at the breakfast included Athens mayor Nancy Denson, who welcomed the new Finance and Administration employees to the city and to the University. Upon returning to the main campus, Senior Vice President Tim Burgess addressed the group to introduce all seven divisions of F&A and discuss important issues they were facing. After a bus tour of campus, the participants met in the Tate Center Grand Hall for lunch. The lunch program involved a door prize drawing with exciting items up for grabs such as a gift card to the UGA bookstore, tickets to an upcoming football game, prizes from the Athens Downtown Development Authority, and even a football signed by Coach Mark Richt and Athletic Director Greg McGarity. Next the group heard from the Finance and Administration associate vice presidents on current special projects within their divisions. The NFAD participants then enjoyed a walking tour of historic North Campus, led by student volunteers from the Visitor’s Center. That tour concluded at the Founders Garden, where the last order of business of the day was a meet-and-greet reception which allowed the new employees a chance to get to know each other a bit more and ask any questions they might have had. The 2012-2013 Diversity Committee (the organizers and facilitators of the New to F&A Day program) posed for a picture in the picturesque Founders Garden.
