Greek Plaza outside of the Tate Student Center at the University of Georgia

In the fall of 2021, campus markers were placed on the West Lawn of the Tate Student Center to recognize the nine historically Black fraternities and sororities that are members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). In May 1969, the Zeta Pi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity became the first NPHC member organization to establish a charter at the University of Georgia. This was followed shortly thereafter by the Zeta Psi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in November 1969.

The nine-member organizations of the NPHC include: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc.
