Director of Culture and Belonging

Anthony Bernard Thomas is the Director of Culture and Belonging for the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration at the University of Georgia. In his position, he coordinates inclusive excellence, culture, and belonging initiatives for the entire Finance and Administration unit. He also chairs the Finance and Administration Culture and Belonging Committee.

Thomas worked at the University of Georgia Police Department (UGPD) for 25 of his 29 years in law enforcement prior to his current role. He held various supervisory positions at the UGPD and served as one of the department’s Deputy Chiefs for the last 15 years. During his tenure as Deputy Chief, Thomas supervised all areas of the police department, including the Patrol Division, the Investigations Division, the Training Unit, the 911 Center, Crime Prevention, the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit, the K-9 team, and the Crisis Negotiation team. Thomas retired from the UGPD in December 2020.

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia and a Master of Public Administration from Columbus State University. He is from Athens, Georgia, and graduated from Clarke Central High School.
