Special Projects Advisor

Jimmy Williamson is a Special Projects Advisor in the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration (OVPFA) at the University of Georgia. In this position, he supports OVPFA with a range of institutional and external affairs, working closely with the President’s Office and other University partners.

Before this role, Williamson served as the UGA Chief of Police for 14 years. He joined the University of Georgia Police Department (UGPD) in 1988 as a Service Officer and held multiple ranks, including Corporal, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. In 1993, he became the Public Safety Director / Chief of Police at Middle Georgia College. The following year, he returned to UGA as a Captain. He was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police in 1996 before being named Chief in 2004. During his time as Chief, he helped establish a bomb squad, introduced K-9 units, and added motorcycle units. He retired from the UGPD in 2018.

Williamson holds a Bachelor of Science from UGA and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Georgia College & State University. He lives with his family in Oconee County.
